Bavijas Weekly — #211

As I had indicated in the opening of my last newsletter edition, pouring different colours of paint into a bowl only produces a grey colour; not a bright one.

President Tinubu must not attempt to fix Nigeria in one day. Recall, Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither would Nigeria.

He must be alert to the sensitivity of the particular socioeconomic condition of the average Nigerian. Mind you, an average Nigerian is ‘poor’. HE Tinubu shouldn't “suffocate the poor”. It is important for him not to do so.

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS:

➡️ President Tinubu appoints Ms Olu Verheijen as Special Energy Adviser. She holds a B.Sc in Economics and Political Science as well as an M.Sc in Public Policy and was formerly the Deal Lead at Shell where she helped broker strategic oil and gas deals.

➡️ CNG: Nigerians continue to press for CNG as an alternative to petrol. Independent petroleum marketers say that remains the only viable option on the table.

➡️ Electricity tariff to increase in Nigeria beginning July, as CBN floats the Naira. Plus, also a result of electricity subsidy removal.

➡️ Airtel launches 5G network in Lagos, Rivers, Ogun states and FCT. As of now, 5G requires a compatible device and the right location to fly in Nigeria. Mafab is the third and only 5G licensee yet to make a launch.

➡️ FIRS directs Nigeria Customs to charge 7.5% VAT on imported diesel. The pump price will likely adjust. Recall, VAT was increased from 5% to the current 7.5% on February 20, 2020.

➡️ ExxonMobil appoints new Lead Country Manager for Nigeria. Mr Shane Harris replaces Richard Laing by July 1, controlling the company's three affiliates in Nigeria.

➡️ From petrol generators to gas-powered generators? As petrol prices climb, technicians are helping hundreds to change conventional petrol carburettors to ones that run on gas.

➡️ Dangote not given license to import petrol, NNPCL says. Nigeria’s downstream petroleum regulator has issued licenses to six companies to import petrol to Nigeria for July.

Love your neighbour as yourself.
