Killing a Wolf family won't save the Deer

The US has just vetoed a recent UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict in Gaza. Out of the Council’s 15 member countries, 13 agreed they wanted the war to end immediately. But the US blocked the deal from seeing the light of the day, while the UK abstained completely from voting.

Many people, including myself, are not happy with Israel’s continued bombardment of civilian enclaves in the Gaza Strip. I wouldn’t care much if Israeli soldiers were killing the Hamas “terrorists” but appalling statistics on the ground reveal the Israeli army has killed way more civilians - in their thousands - than the actual terrorists themselves, triggering a massive humanitarian crisis in the Middle East and raising geopolitical concerns.

The Turkish government of President Tayyip Erdogan has called Israel a “terror state”. Jordan has pulled out of a hitherto pending energy-for-water deal with Israel. Iranian delegates boycotted a UN-led climate discussion at COP28 on sighting Israeli representatives in the hall.

I outrightly condemned Hamas’ attacks on Israeli citizens on October 7 and recognized Israel’s right to self-defence in the event. But then, I also feel it’s time for Jerusalem to recoil the guns given where that military response has brought us now.

I consider it a moral anomaly to hear some revered Evangelicals or Christians throw their weight behind Israel on this and quote weird Bible verses they themselves can’t quite fathom to support their support for the destruction of fellow humans like them.

If I may ask: Are you better than the helpless civilians being slaughtered daily in Gaza?

Shame on you people!

Shame on those who feel the blood of innocent Palestinian children and women should be spilt for the so-called “biblical prophecy” to come to pass, forgetting that killing a family of wolves won’t save the deer.

Honestly, I think we have deviated from doing what is conscientious and humanly expected of us and rather lean ourselves to the whims and caprices of an oblique biblical bystander text to support inhumanity.

Where is our humanity in all of this?
